Smartnodes, a provider of innovative control modules for outdoor lighting, licenses Wirepas Mesh and joins the Wirepas partner ecosystem to further strengthen smart city applications.
Smartnodes technology is based on deploying intercommunicating sensors along the streets to adapt, in real time, street lighting levels to traffic density and type of users (cars, cyclists and pedestrians) delivering “Light where and when needed”.
Smartnodes Smart Lighting System creates “light bubbles” following street users wherever they go. By dynamically varying the light emitted by each luminaire, power consumption is minimized whilst delivering a superior lighting experience tailored to the needs of the user. Each street user receives a dedicated light bubble especially adapted to their needs and speed. Lighting control decisions are made locally at the luminaire level, leading to optimum energy savings, which can reach up to 80%.
Smart Street Lighting is also the natural starting point to build Smart Cities connectivity infrastructures. Mobility management, a pillar of Smart Cities, can be enabled which opens the way for many applications by feeding information, in a secure way, to traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, traffic and warning signs. Adding additional sensors to the Smart Lighting wireless network can give visibility of additional public space information like parking occupancy, noise levels, and air quality.
The partnership between Smartnodes and Wirepas will enable Smartnodes to create a cost-effective dynamic and reliable wireless communication network inside cities.
Innovative uses of the smart lighting network allow municipalities to justify investment in new technologies with a clear benefit to their citizens and making best use of public funds by using the existing street lights infrastructure to monitor public spaces.
